One of the best Matador in action
I love animals and I loath seeing them being butchered. While I am in any country, I am open to trying things and love learning about the countries culture & experiences. Thus lead me to watching the Bull Fights in Spain.
My mates and I headed to Plaza de Toros Las Ventas, the Largest Ring in the bullfighting world. The bull fights starts in the late afternoon until early evening. We bought tickets at the stadium directly and secured some seats in the shades. Luckily, my mate speaks fluent Spanish even though he’s a born and bred Aussie. He helped us through to our seats due to the large stadium.
There were several fights shown it is only after the fight that I realised the following about bull fighting.
What happens during a bull fight: (Warning, graphical):
- As the bull is released into the stadium, it will have already been stabbed in the back of the neck with knives.
- Just before the encore, an entourage (on foot or on horse) stabs the bull more. This way, the more the bull moves the deeper it gets stabbed.
- During the fight, the matador come out with his red sheet. Behind the red sheet there are more knives. As he flicks his red sheet, he quickly (in a blink of an eye) stabs the bull.
- The crowd cheers get louder. The matador takes a queue from the crowd whether the crowd wants him to finish the bull once and for all.
- The crowds wave white handkerchiefs and cheer.
- The matador finally kills the bull.
- The bull goes down on its knees, slowly going down to his face.
- The final step is to kill the bull.
- The crowds cheer and wave white handkerchiefs.
- The matador takes a bow
- The dead bull gets tied behind horse carriage and paraded around the stadium
- The score keeper shows matador score vs the bull
- The dead bull gets taken out of the stadium, the meat cut ups and serve in the restaurants for tourists to eat
.
This is probably the first and last time I watch any bull fights. I do not find any excitement like the way I watch UFC or tennis. However, I do understand why the Spanish like it and it has been part of their culture for centuries.
