Mai in front of Versailles Landscaped Garden
The Château de Versaille or simply Versailles is around 24 kilometres from Paris. I have read so much about it and it is one of the reason why I wanted to visit Paris. I’ve dedicated an entire day for this trip.
If you are in Paris, the best way to get to Versailles is by train. It will take you less than an hour. If you are there during Summer, be prepared to stand in the queue for your Versailles’s ticket for 2-3 hours, no I am not joking. I am here during winter and the line is like 100 metres long. There is however a way to avoid the lines, so listen CAREFULLY. What you want to do is go straight to the ticket box, yes you will be getting a few dirty looks but don’t worry, it’s you who will have the last laugh, and when you are there tell them you want to join the “Private King Louis Apartment Tour“. They will direct you to another area where you can get your ticket straight away. There you go 2 hours slashed. Not only that, you will be able to have a private tour of King Louis apartment which is not available to the public. The cost is 23 Euros.
So why am I so fascinated by Versailles? Well, as a child I loved reading this Japanese comic which detailed the story of the life of Marie Antoinette. I also wanted to know whether King Louis XVI has a fat round unattractive face. They must have have his picture around somewhere
. In addition to that, I would also like know how extravaganza Marie Antoinette’s resident was. As I said earlier Versailles was an estate. The Kings hunted in this area so you can imagine the size of it.
The most significant event in Versailles’s history was during the french revolution. King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were both dragged back to Paris where they were beheaded.
Even with a full day dedicated to just visiting Versailles, I was still finding myself rushing. I have never seen gardens so lush, and lawns stretched as far as the eyes can see. The castles were so majestic, you can still really see the history etched into its walls. Have a look at these awesome photos I took:
- Mai in front of Versailles Landscaped Garden
- Mai in front of the main palace of Versailles
- Mai in front of Grand Trianon (Marie Antoinette’s resident)
- The main Versailles Palace seen from the garden – it’s massive!!
- Landscaped garden of Versailles
- Grand Ballroom of the main Castle – full of tourists (cannot imagine what it will be like during peak season)
- This is the Altar where Marie Antoinette married King Louis XVI
- Close decor of the Altar and its organ
- If you join the King’s private apartment tour, you can get really close to this altar
- I love the chandeliers
- The colour of room decoration in the palace changed every season.
- Tapestry which shows what it was like during french revolution – all the valuable of Versailles were raided off and some of them were burnt or sold off
- Lots of people ride a bike, have a picnic and simply enjoy the landscaped Versailles garden
- Rose Garden at Grand Trianon (Marie Antoinette’s resident)
- Grand Trianon where Marie Antoinette lived
- Grand Trianon
- Petite Trianon at Marie Antoinette’s residency
- Petite Trianon – in Marie Antoinette’s residency
