Birds at Mamukala Wetland

Because I visited Kakadu during the wet seasons there were places that were out of bounds or required a 4wd. This is due to heavy floodings. I really wanted to visit Ubirr, Jim Jim and the Twin Falls which would have offer spectacular views. So that sucked a little but because I came during the wet season I pretty much managed to have the entire NT (Northern Territory) to myself so it was a good tradeoff.

The place to stay if you’re visiting Kakadu is Jabiru or Yellow Water.

Here are the places I went to:

  • Bowali Visitor Centre – The Bowali Visitor Centre was of great help. Here the staffs will show you what the best attractions, quick intro of Kakadu, which roads are accessable and more.
  • Mamukala Wetland – During the dry season, there are a large abundant of birds visiting the wetland. It is quite a big wetland where you can also do a quick bush walk around it. This is heaven for bird watchers. Make sure you bring your binoculars!
  • Mirrai Lookout – For bushwalkers enthutiasts, you can have a quick climb to Mirrai Lookout where you get a nice view of Kakadu land.
  • Yurmikmik Walk – For longer walks, you can explore Yurmikmik Walk where you get vast forests, hills, falls, creek view during bush walking.

I really enjoy Kakadu National Park. I encountered plenty of native Australian wildlife (some of them cannot be captured by my camera) as well as the beautiful wetlands and plants.

Kakadu is also the home of Uranium mine called Jabiluka. Miners has permission from the owner of the land (the Australian Aborigines) to mine uranium which are used within Australia and exported all over the world.

The f#ck – Wild horse in our forests. So easy to be completely ignorant of what’s in our own country, that donkey horse looks insane. Feels like my perception of South America or somewhere.

Hi, Wild horse is not native to Australia. I was told by the park rangers, some of wild horses were imported to the country then released. So they are still wild. It was nice to be able to encounter wild animals :) .
