The Boss by Andrew O'Keeffe.

I’ve just finished reading an interesting book titled “The Boss” by Andrew O’Keeffe.

He profiles bosses in 2 categories:

1. The one who’s good at managing up.
2. The one who’s good at managing down.

Seems like bosses who were good at managing up were the least favourable amongst the employees. They usually sit in a separate section away from their employee’s, close to other managers who have their own fish tanks, live plants, nicer leather couch (compared to plastic chair in the staff coffee room). They are good at playing the political game and only care about how to look good in front of their bosses and how they can move up the ladder fast at the expense of their employees. This may include putting the blame or taking credits off employees. So pretty much BASTARDS.

The bosses who fall under the second category tends to be more likable amongst employees. These bosses usually sit with the employees. They tend to be on the employee side and defend the team.

Looking back at my previous bosses, I’ve been very lucky and blessed to have such good managers who don’t backstab me or have two faces. They’ve always appreciated my hard work, have been very aspiring and I learnt a tonne from them. They tend to fight for me too (e.g. for payrises or simply making my voice heard or point accepted).

The other thing that this book talks about is how first impression counts! In fact it seems that most people will draw about 3 impressions of someone they first meet.

So, so what are the 3 impressions I want you guys to think of me? ;P The 3 words that I want to project to people I first meet are quirky (Ive got this wierd sense of sarcasm), enthutiastic and sincerity.
