Tokio Japanese Takeaway Cafe - Melbourne Cheap Eats

Today I went lunch with one of my girlfriends at Tokio Japanese Takeaway Cafe (16-17 The Causeway, Melbourne - Australia). This little cute takeaway has several seatings and is run by a very nice Japanese lady. I have been their loyal customer for more than 10 years. It’s hidden in the alleyway of Melbourne City which is very typical Melbourne.
So if you’re working full time around Melbourne City (Bourke St and surroundings) and looking for something quick, nice and cheap meal for lunch, this is certainly the place for you.
The price is very reasonable ranging from $7.90 - $9.00 for rice/noodle bowl.
Some of the very popular dishes below:
- Ebi Don (Crumbed prawns with eggs, soy mirin and onion) served on a bed of rice

AU$8.80 (US$7) will get you Ebi Don (Crumbed Prawn with sliced onion, soy mirin and egg on a bed of rice)
- Katsu Don (Similar to Ebi Don but with Crumbed Pork)
- Oyako Don (Simlar to Ebi and Katsu Don but with chicken)
- Udon noodle soups (with toppings of Mixed Vegie tempura or chicken or sweet tofu)

Chicken Udon - Chicken served in udon noodle and shitake mushrooms on a broth
- Teriyaki Chicken on Rice
- Sukiyaki Rice (Beef, sliced onion) and vermicelli on sweet soy sauce
- They also serve Kara age (Deep fried marinated chicken) and Gyozas (Japanese pan fried pork dumplings)
