Idea Fine Food & Wine Restaurant, Melbourne
3 Comments February 26, 2009 / Posted in Food & WineIt must be 2 years ago now since the last time I was at Idea Fine Food & Wine Restaurant - 146-148 Little Bourke St, Melbourne (Ph: 03 9663 8829). I decided to have dinner there tonight.
The menu has changed, I couldn’t find my favourite dishes anymore. I also noticed a price hike. Reservation was not required as I managed to just walk in and get a table. The restaurant was half full thus service was quick.
Idea Fine Food & Wine Restaurant serves modern fusion chinese with elaborate wine list which I think is lacking in most traditional chinese restaurants. Some of the dishes were accompanied with a recommended wine thus makes you an instant wine connoisseur.
Browsing through the menu I found one familiar favourite past dish of mine ‘Bantung’ Scallops. If you look at the picture below, I specifically asked for the Jumbo Scallops options. The scallops were lovely as they were cooked to perfection. It was served with thick red curry sauce and 3 pieces of snowpeas as garnish and crispy shallots.

My favourite dish at Idea Fine Food & Wine - Bantung Scallops
I was looking for something to dip into the curry sauce with from the Bantung Scallops dish. I ordered the Chinese bun, deep fried style. You get the crispy outside with soft velvety fragrant buns.

The second dish I ordered was Squid Cakes for the price of AU$7.80. It comes in 3 but in the picture below, my dining mate already popped one in his mouth. This particular dish is so addictive, I could eat a bunch of them easily. While my dining partner told me he would love to have something like this as a breakfast.

Squid Cakes - it comes in 3 pieces
The last dish we shared was the Sichuan Chicken. The Sichuan Spiced Grilled Tender chickens were served in fried wild chives leaves with sprinkles of finely chopped onions and spring onions. It was lovely.

The whole bill including non alcoholic drinks and tips came to AU$80 which I split with my dinner partner thus AU$40/person.

Very nice restaurant for cosy, intimate dinners. We had Peking duck there which was quite good and your pictures bring back fond memories of their scallops/prawns
OHHH I shall try Peking duck next time
[...] the restaurant is very modern and not your typical chinese restaurant. It has a similar concept as Idea Fine Food and Wine Restaurant without the price tag [...]
