I had a day trip to Mount Dandenong Ranges (approximately 1.5 hours from Melbourne). There are so many nice cafes and restaurants around but I happened to be around Fortnums Tea Room at Sassafras and with the heavy rain I decided to have lunch there.
The dining room is a conservatory style with a great view of their garden. So great that may people have their weddings here.
Here are some the dishes my mates and I had at Fortnums:
- Fisherman’s lunch AU$18.90 – selection of calamari, scallops, prawn cutlets, crab meat and whittings accompanied with potato wedges and tartar sauce (I substituted it with sweet chilli sauce)

Fisherman's Lunch
- Beef Lasagne AU$15.90

Beef Lasagne served with potato wedges and salad
- Devonshire Scones AU$6.50 – served with cream and jam

Scones for dessert
Overall, it was a great cafe with good service, nice ambient and food, value for money.

Hi Kowan, I haven’t been back since year 2009 so I cannot comment on how bad their service is.
