The watch of my soon to be reality - Patek Philippe Ladies Calatrava 7119
Today I was walking to a watch dealer ready to part my cash for a Rolex Cellini Classic :). Before making my final decision, I was made to wait. As I was waiting, my eyes were browsing around the other watches the dealer had in the store. I walked past Cartier, Audemars Piquet, IWC, Brietling, Jaeger La Couture….the list goes on, suddenly my eyes stopped at this particular watch. The watch was display subtly amongst the others, my eyes were drawn towards it. I tried to walk away since I already had a watch in mind (Rolex Cellini Classic) but my eyes wouldn’t move from this watch. The watch in question’s Patek Philippe Calatrava 7119 (as shown in the picture).
After staring at it for 5 minutes, my curiosity got bigger. The sales assistant came with my earlier request of the Rolex Cellini Classic and noticed that I was interested in the Patek Philippe watch. Being a great sales person, she opened the display and put it next to the Rolex Cellini Classic. She then asked me whether I would like to try the Patek Philippe watch. I didn’t make a sound, she immediately put it on my wrist. Perfect! It’s just simply PERFECT! I was thinking to myself that I was completely happy and serene at that moment. Anyhow, I love great food, wine, boys, nice clothes, cars but I nothing beats a really classic watch. (perhaps my love for animals probably equals that) !!!
Out of the sudden, my Rolex Cellini Classic looked far inferior! I completely had no feeling towards it. The lady explained that the Patek Philippe watch is manual winding which made me love it even more. I asked the sales person, I still do not understand why lots of the watch maker tend to put quartz movement in ladies watches unlike men’s. She explained that ladies tend to look for convinient (they do not like to wind their watches).
I have found THE ONE! I have found THE WATCH! It’s not IWC, It’s not Rolex, It’s not just any Patek Philippe, it’s the Patek Philippe Ladies Calatrava 7119! Now, I have a bigger problem as my budget allocated for a my dream watch was AU$6000-7000. The Patek Phillipe is doubled in price! I told the sales assistant that I had to re-think whether I am willing to fork out double what I originally had. I knew in my heart that I have found the one and if money is a problem, it is not a problem at all. I just have to save a bit longer to get one. The other problem I have is with Rolex Cellini Classic watches, they will still be around. However, if this Patek Philippe watch is gone, they are simply gone forever.
I am sad and happy at the same time. Happy that I have finally found the watch that I really want but sad that I do not have the cash for it. So, either way I still have to save up for 2-3 months to be able to afford the watch.
Diamond is girls’ best friend but luxury watches are Mai’s Best Friend :).

I saw this watch and will decide on it tomorrow, how much was the price? It’s 14466.15USD in Swiss. It seems that your price is much better? I’d appreciate it if you can give me the quote. Also, what do youo mean by ‘7119 might be gone forever’? u mean that patek doesn’t make so many of them like Rolex? Thanks!
Hi,
First of all, Congrats on your soon to be purchase
- I’m Green With Envy!!
The cost of the watch as I was quoted on the shop is AU$15,000 OR US$11,878. It is certainly a better price than yours (US$14,466). Usually with watches, you can bargain down ranging from 10%-20% of the original price (if you are lucky). The dealer would have a seller margin to play around. As the 7119 might be gone forever, you’re right, what I meant by that Patek doesn’t make many of them (limited amount). For example if they only make 5000 of these watch around the world, then once those 5000 are purchased by others, they’re not tehre anymore for you to order (i.e. they’re not going to re-make). This results in the watches being more exclusive and holds the value better if 20 years down the track you decide to sell - can be a rare item.
Please let me know how it feels to finally own this watch.
wow…this is looking great..you are lucky enough not to buy the Rolex. the ultimate epic in watch collectors dream is to buy 1 patek phillipe…but the patek will never be yours..its for your next generation ..LOL..
Im a collector myself, but where do you go to in melb? is the the HG? or Monards?
I hope you will be able to buy this watch by end of this year for Xmas..
oh in australia 10-30% is normal …but i lvoe to buy my watches in Spore/HK/Msia ..because they give a really good discount…I got 60% on Gerald Genta 2 years ago from HG ..and on top of them they give me interest free installment for more then 2 years..nothing bid that ..not in melbourne itself. I think if you travel alot..I would suggest to you to buy it in overseas. Value for money!
Hope to hear more from you
Hi, Welcome ZZin to my blog :)!
A very interesting interest free installment comment that you got from HG.
In Melbourne - Australia you’re right you can buy from HG for Patek. I have recently been back from Hong Kong and Singapore for business and I managed to check on the price of Rolex. It’s not much difference compare to Australia (slight savings but not significant e.g. instead in AUD, you just change it to SGD which is also equivalent to when you duty free your Australian purchase and take it overseas).
I am hoping to get the watch as a present (somehow), my previous company gave away AU$5000 tag heuer watches for christmas pressie but doubt that we get anything like that this year! So maybe a birthday present from someone who really loves me :D!!!
Fingers crossed
I love Hublot too ZZin :). I wish I’m a man now…(or have a bigger wrist). Men have so much nicer watches!!!
5K from company presents…thats great..darn..i should go and work there..any vacancy … i need to apply soon..need to change career lol..
Well seriously ..im not sure about Rolex because never ask about rolex. But I know that all the AD said to me that Rolex dont have that much discount. Maybe you should look at some other brands.
Yes, I love Hublot so much and will try my best to buy my ultimate Hublot one day..Hublot have many watches for ladies..and they sure look good on you..go and try at HG in melbourne.. I saw 3 months ago they have the Hubot Bing Bang on display .
and yes..Men have so much nicer watches…and I love it !!
Glad we have something in common - watches enthutiasts! Sales job is not good for your health…I wouldn’t recommend it - it’s quite a stressful occupation. As per Hublot - last year, I recommended a friend to go for Hublot instead of a tag heuer (he got persuaded BY Me :)!!). He was looking for a sporty watch than a dress watch. He paid 4500 euros for Big Bang Classic Gold…As for me unfortunately hublot watch doesn’t look good on my wrist but it looks damn good on his. I adore men watches than women (droool).
my wife likes the 7119 . (i like the 4934). so now i have to buy one.
was the aus$15k the x gst price for travelling? i am travelling to france soon and wonder if it is cheaper in aus than paris.
good choice of watch hope you are enjoying it?
Your wife deserves a 7119 :). I am not really sure about which one is cheaper (Australia including Free GST) or in Paris. However, in the past, when shopping for Luxury Goods, I noticed the cheapest would be in Hong Kong and when you compare Australian prices with European Prices…Australia is generally cheaper (with free GST). The watch is the best purchase I have since iPhone
as I constantly around these 2 items day and night. Hope this helps :).
Thanks heaps.
So you think i could get one for aus $15K x gst?
Make sure you bargain - I never pay full price to the dealer
- see my comment above on dealer margin. Then you can get the GST free on top of that.
Thanks. Will let you know how i go
