A Bamboo Charcoal Roll from Breadtop
I walked past my favourite bakery at QV Building in Melbourne (Corner Lonsdale St and Swanston St). The bakery name is Breadtop. I decided to buy a couple of buns for lunch and came across a Bamboo Charcoal Roll. The roll is black like the colour of charcoal. I was intrigued and decided to give it a try. The sign says that Bamboo Charcoal is produced with 4 year old fully grown bamboo trees. It is rich in Vitamin C, Iron and Phosphorous. It helps to ease digestive system, helps discharging impurities and unhealthy substances from the stomach. Is this another bogus chinese medicine claim?
Anyway I decided to give the bamboo charcoal a go, the thing that interest me is how it tastes, forget about all the “powers”. I took a bite and it tastes like your normal garlic bread and no charcoal taste. It is crusty on the outside and soft inside full of garlicky and butter flavour. It is delicious! So does it make me healthier as it was claimed? Do I even care? It taste awesome. Price wise (AU$3.40) is slightly pricier than your normal bread rolls but certainly affordable. Will I be buying more of Bamboo Charcoal Roll in the future? Maybe, when I feel like a good garlic bread without having to wait for it to be baked first :).
