Mai at Keukenhof Gardens - Holland

Before you read on further, there will be LOTS of FLOWERS! particularly TULIPS in this post, so if you’re not a flower person, he’s your chance to go now.

Tulips are my favourite flowers and what a better way to see them than in Holland/The Netherlands. I was very lucky to be able to visit Keukenhof Gardens which is famous for its Tulip Garden which is located at Lisse. It is open only 6 weeks a year and depending on the weather, sometimes they might not even have enough fresh tulips grown.

I caught a train to nearby town Leiden and then caught Bus number 54 through Lisse then to Keukenhof. You can buy a special ticket from Netherlands Railways which combines the entrance to the gardens and travel by express bus (20 minutes)  from Leiden Central Station. My dutch ex-flatmate told me that Keukenhof are full of pensioners (old people) and he was surprised to find me so keen. I told him other than the tulips I also enoy the company of the elders.

When I got there I spent a whole day enjoying the blooming of millions multicoloured tulips. There were other flowers too such as daffodil and hyacinth. It was just magical.  The sun was out and everyone was merry and my flatmate was right. Other than asian tourists and myself, there were not many young people around. Who Cares!! Tulip’s all I care about!!! They were so beautiful and I was fortunate to experience it.

    Hi,

Yes, I’ve been couple time to Tasselaar tulip farm near Dandenong ranges (8 years ago) – will post on that :) . Having been to the one locally in Tasselaar, it inspired me to make a trip to Keukenhof (the original tulip garden) despite it’s full of old people lol. The one in Tasselaar is very small compare to the one in Holland but it’s a good cut down version. When you get a chance, you should certainly visit the one in Holland. For the time being, tulips fan can feed their tulips hunger at Tasselaar :) .
