The good thing about living with a Dutch person is we both have the same good taste in Indonesian food. The Dutch invaded Indonesia for 3.5 centuries. The Dutch love Indonesian food more than their own. My flatmate took me to a really authentic Indonesian restaurant while I visited his home town Den Haag at the Netherlands. He took us to Poentjak – Kneuterdijk 16 2514 EN Den Haag, Ph: (070) 360 05 22.

We had Ristjafel (Rice table) which is a banquet of many Indonesian dishes which mostly consist of spicy food. Here are some of the Ristjafel dishes:

  • Chicken in Spicy Coconut Sauce

  • From Left To Right: Livers and vegetables stew in coconut sauce and Satays (Grill Chicken and Lamb Meat on skewers)

satay

  • Left To Right: Sweet and Sour Vegetable Soup, Bean shoots in spicy sauce, egg in spicy peanut sauce

vegies

  • Some condiments such as pickled vegetables, deep fried anchovies, peanuts and shredded coconuts pan fried so they give you crispy textures.

No Indonesian Meal would be complete without some types of crackers.

One of my friends also ordered coconut juice served with thick cordial.
