Vasa Ship
While I was in Stockholm, I decided to visit a piece of important Swedish history – a giant ancient ship at Vasa Museum. The museum itself is located in the Djurgarden island which you can reach on foot if you’re nearby, a tram or a ferry. What is so special about this ship? it is the only 17th century surviving ship in the world which is fully intact.
Some quick facts about Vasa Ship:
- The ship was built to battle the Polish
- It sank after only few minutes setting sail
- It carries 300 soldiers , 145 sailors and 64 guns
- The most elaborate ship ever built – with no limit to costs of building and decoration
- 69 meters in length, 52.5 meters in width, 11.7 meters in beam, 4.8 meters in draft, and weigh 1,200 tonnes
