Merchandises at Autumn Market - Skansen, Stockholm

I really like the idea of a family day out with no roller coasters involved. No better place than to visit than the open air museum  – Skansen which acts like their cultural and history centre, park for picnics and entertainment and zoo all in one. I could easily spend a whole day relaxing but I had to get ready for an evening party with my colleague and his friends in one of the island. This place is not just perfect for the locals but also for the travellers. The swedish is preserving their traditions and heritage in a very interactive way. You could explore the traditional houses , buildings and their way of living from ancient time until modern era.

Being an animal lovers what I enjoyed the most is visiting Skansen Zoo which has a collections of local native animals such as deer, elks, bears, seals and much more.

If you visit during mid-June, in Sweden, they have a midsummer celebration where they have plenty of food and dance. The highlight is the raising of the pole. I experienced this when I visited my friend in Goteborg.

If you are after a good quality Swedish handicraft such as wooden craft, you can visit the old town (Gamla Stan) or buy them here in Skansen.

In Skansen, there are a lot of entertainment and seasonal performances. The time that I was there, there was an apple festival. I have never seen a wide variety of apples – up to 140 different types of them on display. The best thing is you can buy and taste them. I ended up having them for breakfast, lunch and snacks the next day. You can never have enough apples :) .

As part of the festival, they have farmers market where you can sample Swedish cooked meals, fresh bread, fresh juices, jams, crackers (Love Scandanavian Crackers), sweets, desserts, fresh produce (fish, fruit) and buy traditional crafts. There’re a lot of musics, dance, laughters and play acts to re-create the ancient time and festivity atmosphere. I really enjoy having side picnic in  their open space park.
