Czech Republic – Prague City By Day

Charles Bridge, Prague
I decided to spend couple days in Prague, the capital of Czech Republic. Prague is a city with 1.2 million people. I managed to walk everywhere in Prague as the city is small enough. Prague city is very pretty and I personally consider the place to be very romantic. I would recommend you visit it both during the day and night. It is also a very safe place if you walk within your means (well lit streets and avoid dark alleyways, etc). When you get really tired and like to venture out of the main tourist places, you can always catch a tram.
If you have more time, you should attend one of the many classical musics concerts in Prague and do a day trip to Cesky Krumlov.
The main attractions of Prague:
- Wenceslas Square - which is where all the tourists are staying but also the main shopping and banking place. You can find local day tour operators here.
- Charles Bridge – The most famous and beautiful bridge
- Astronomical Clock – The most overrated clock as it’s quite tiny to attract so many crowds. Astronomical Clock will ring every hour and you will notice it because there will be a lot of people standing around. The clock displays 12 saints rotating while the it rings. I highly recommend you climb up the tower and see Prague city in birds eye view
. Next to the Astronomical clock is Prague City Town Hall. - Prague Old Town – as the name says – another part of the main city, very pretty
- Prazsky Hrad (Prague Castle) – main attraction, must visit
- Golden Lane – 11 historic houses with tourist shops
- Mucha Museum – a museum which houses the Czech Art Nouveau artist Alphonse Mucha
- Municipal House – it’s a concert hall, I’d highly recommend you have tea there as the cafe is simply beautiful decorated with lush furnitures, tall windows and chandeliers. You will feel like locals here
- Jewish Quarter
- John Lennon Strawberry Fields Wall
Being a shopaholic, I always manage to shop. So what would you buy from Prague/Czech Republic, I’d recommend you buy local things that they’re famous for:
- Bohemian crystals – you can get it in a shape of a vase, dinnerware, jewellery (earings)
- Garnet in a jewellery
- Wooden Toys
- Kretek – their local cartoon character
- Art Nouveau things – preferably by local artist Mucha
