Mai at the hanging rock, macedon ranges - Victoria (Australia)

Although the forecast was for cold & windy weather with the chance of rain, I still decided it was worth the risk visiting Hanging Rock.  I really feel that the Hanging Rock is underated in terms of places to visit in Victoria. It really does have all the necessary features for an awesome family/friend outing. The Hanging Rock is located at Macedon Ranges near the Victoria spa country region.

They day actually ended up being an very enjoyable one. I got a real suprise when I first got there and saw a mob of kangaroos 30 strong!! My friend from the Netherlands found this amazing.

Hanging Rock has great picnic spots with plenty of room to kick a footy,  a soccer ball or even throw a boomerang, which we did.

After the BBQ, we treked up the awesome rock formations. The view from the top was spectacular! For those who are a little more adventurous you can really navigate the rocks to get even better views. Have a look at some of the spectacular views I captured.

There is a horror movie made about this place in 1975 called Picnic at The Hanging Rock. It is a story about a bunch of school girls went to a picnic there and never returned. I can see how this is possible as you can easily get lost or fall off the rock formations.

Entry fee is $15 per car. So make sure you have a fullhouse in your car to make the most out of it. It’s a great day out and definetely a fun exploring the rocks. I took my dog Simba as well and he had a great time.

ps:  make sure you bring plenty of gold coins if you want to operate the BBQ in the carpark area
