Fresh Eland - apparently Eland tastes better than any best types of Beef
As part of my African safari at Tanzania, East Africa, I visited the famous Serengeti National Park for 2 days. During the first day, we saw different types of animals but a little bit here and there (i.e. Nothing dramatic). Serengeti National Park is the size of Denmark and we used a four wheels drive to explore it in 2 days thus explain the long drive and little animals on display due to the vast area we need to cover.
To our surprise, in a brink of giving up, our driver who was also our guide saw a lioness ran followed by a massive dust storms afar. Then we realised that she must have just completed a kill and more likely had just caught a prey. We were soooo excited and could not believe our luck to possibly be able to witness Lions feeding in the wild! Furthermore, we have just missed the chasing and killing process by seconds! Our driver drove really fast to find where the Lions have killed their prey. After a quick 2 minutes drive around, there was just another car viewing a bunch of Lions feed on an eland (Africa’s biggest antelope). We were second time lucky as we could view the feeding in peace considering there were so many cars around the national park.
We saw about 8-12 Lioness and 3 cubs were feasting on the freshly killed eland. To get better view, I had to stand on the roof top of our four wheel drive. We were so close to the feeding (approximately 8 meters) that we could hear the bone crunching and the lions ripping the meat apart. It was the best experience I have seen. We stayed there for a good 20 minutes. I could have stayed longer if there was not other tour group members to considerate. Some of them got really sick with the blood scene while I really enjoy it. This is as close as you could possibly get experiencing what nature have to offer. I tried to make hyena voices to see the lions’ reaction. Couple of them stared directly at me (i.e. the voice). I’ll let my pictures speak for themselves :). Although they cannot substitute the same feeling while witnessing it in person, they always bring back great memories.
