There are many restaurants in Sydney I that I quite enjoy, sometimes so much so that I will even go myself :) . One of them is called Bistrode which is run by Jane and Jeremy Strode. It is located at Surrey Hills (which is a short 10 minutes car ride from Sydney CBD).

I really like the restaurant’s ambient, its small, cosy and cute. It has a really nice selection of wine. I always start with a sparkling wine before my meal, on this occassion a Yarrabank Cuvee’s did the job perfect, followeded by a glass of West Cape Howe ‘Styx Gully’ chardonnay.

Here are my favourite dishes at Bistrode:

  • Warm Duck and Peach Salad AU$35
The combination of crispy skin duck medium rare and the sweetness of the peach served with fresh salad’s divineduck
  • Bass Groper, Eggplant & Chilli AU$37.50
The velvety smooth bass groper fish tastes delicious and the side of eggplant sweet and tangy eggplant with a subtle hint of chilli compliments each other. I really love this dish.fish
  • Honey Tart & Peanut Butter Ice Cream AU$17.50This has to be one of the best tart I’ve ever had. Within distance, you can already smell the honey. The filling was firm and the tart base’s perfect. To top it all off, the peanut butter ice cream’s DIVINE. The combination of sweet and salty peanut butter-ish ice cream with strong honey flavoured tart is like pea in a pod.honey_tart

  • Dark Chocolate and Cherry ‘Mess’ AU$17.50
For chocolate lover, this is a must eat dessert. The dark chocolate and cherry combination works really well. For texture, the light crispy meringue adds that special touch. The dessert was a little bit too rich for me but I still managed to almost finish it :) .mesh

The bill ended up approximately AU$85/person for a 2 course meal (main with sides and dessert) and 2 glasses of wine which I think is worth every single cent.

Bistrode also sells a few awesome cook books and which I think are worth getting as I have personally tried to cook a couple of the dishes and it’s really easy :) . So next time you’re in the neighbourhood, make sure visit Bistrode. It’s definetely Mai’s kind of restaurant :) .
