There are many affordable restaurants in Melbourne. If you are after a cheap modern australian cuisine restaurant with great view (Melbourne Parliament house) and where you can feast on a main dish and a glass of quality wine – all for $35, step into City Wine Shop.
City Wine Shop has both outdoor and indoor dining area. Both have a nice ambient, as outside you are dining in the side walks with a view of Melbourne Parliament house. While dining indoor, you will be dining inside a ‘cellar bar’ – very cosy with lots of characters.
The food here is Modern Australian and of course it won’t be featured in my blog if it doesn’t taste good
. This will be a good restaurant for pre-theatre dining, a relaxing first date or dinner with friends after couple drinks at rooftop bar or simply a nice meal after a long hard day of work. You can leave the restaurant with a bottle or a dozen of wine as you can purchase wine here to takeaway.
Here is what we had for the night:
- Crispy Pork Belly served with Apple, Raddichio and Green Salad

Crispy Pork Belly
- Tuna Nicoise – a fillet of perfectly cooked Tuna (semi rare inside) served with boiled egg with soft yolk, green and yellow beans

Tuna Nicoise
- A minute steak – my mate does not really enjoy this but maybe he was eye-ing on Chicken Parmigiana in the menu board instead
