After I landed at Launceston airport, I hopped into my hire car and drove 45 minutes alongside the amazing scenery of Tamar Valley. We were heading towards Pipers Brook Ninth Island Vineyard for a late lunch at Daniel Alps at Strathlynn. Luckily, I made a reservation weeks prior to my arrival to ensure that I secure a table with a view of Tamar River and vineyards.

The food at Daniel Alps was amazing and being a vineyard, I decided to order a bottle of Ninth Island Pinot Noir.

My fellow diners and I decided to have a main meal and a dessert. It was such a relaxing lunch – simply DIVINE….

Here are what we ordered for our main meal:

  • Oven Roasted Spring Venison with baby vegetables & potato, chive croquette

  • Trout cooked with spring vegetables – $33.80

  • Strathlynn Vineard Platter – organic vegetables prepared in a variety of ways with chicken $33.80
vegetables at their best, cooked in variety of ways (in quiche style, bbq, steamed) - scrumptious, where vegetables are the star of the dish

After scrumptious main meals, we decided to have similar desserts :)

  • Semifreddo with sliced apple and cream $14.70

The combination of not so sweet semifreddo with a slight tanginess of green apple and crispy merinque and the smoothness of thick cream with raisins pieces blend perfectly.

  • Liquer Affogato – choice of liquer (I chose Kahlua) , vanilla bean ice cream and coffee $12.70
Combination of kahlua and espresso with sweet ice cream are divine - a perfect way to end a meal

We dined with a great view of the Vineyard and Tamar River :) – What a life!

We accompanied our meal with a bottle of 2007 Piper Brook Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir $57.95/bottle.

Before we left, we did some wine tasting of some of the Ninth Island wines, unfortunately, the wine didn’t excite me and it’s rare for me not to go home with any wine. I think I preferred the pinot noir varieties from Coal River Valley (south east of Tasmania region) and in my home state of Mornington Peninsula more.
