At the tulip garden (Dandenong, an hour from Melbourne, Australia)
Tasselaar Tulip Garden/Tulip Festival (mid September – mid October)
357 Montbulk Rd,
Silvan, Victoria (Australia)
approximately 1 hour and 10 mins from Melbourne CBD
Spring is in the air and what a better way to celebrate it than to take a trip down the Dandenongs to the Tulip Garden Festival!
The Tasselaar tulip garden is comparable with the Keukenhoff in Holland. The rows of colourful tulips certainly make everyone happy
. Simply beautiful.

How to enjoy the Tulip Festival

Colourful Tulips
The good weather was a blessing as it started to rain the night before (AFL Grand Finals 2010). If you decide to visit the Tulip Garden. I recommend you buy your entrance ticket online as the queue might be long due to its enormous popularity. Although you can buy food there, I’d recommend you pack your own picnic and spend a whole day there.
Things to see and do
Tulips and more tulips. There’s a tractor ride for the young and old that takes you around the garden. I prefer the ‘foot’ option as you can go through rows and rows of tulips. You can always enjoy it by walking around the garden in your wooden clogs
.

There are plenty of Picnic Areas
In certain days, the tulip garden will have a theme day (e.g. Dogs day, Dutch Day, etc). When I went it happened to be the Dutch day, there’re lots of musics and traditional dance performance.

I always enjoy picnic in the garden with great friends. It’s a very nice and relaxing atmosphere which allows me to smell the fresh air.
Around the tulip gardens, there are displays of interesting sculptures which are on sale.

A goanna and magpie sculpture - for sale

More interesting sculpture - sculptures are on display throughout the garden
Being right at the tulip farm, the best way to spend your money is of course on tulips. You can always pick your own tulips or buy some bulbs at a cheap price.
Everyone seems to enjoy the tulip festival, after all Spring is in the air

Omg I was working there!
Did you try any of the ethnic food?
Ur aussies are copycats! The authentic Dutch one (Keukenhof) is the real deal!
Hi Rolo,
Thanks for your feedback, we never claim that our Tulip Garden in Dandenong is the original one. It’s nice to bring a slice of Keukenhof into Australia without us having to fly 24 hours to Holland
. I’ve been to both (see my post on Keukenhof) and enjoyed them very much. Imitation is a form of flattery
. I’d encourage all of us to experience the real deal (Keukenhof) when you get a chance, it’s amazing
.
are dogs allowed to go?
Yes, I did see dogs on leash…dogs may only be allowed to roam around in the picnic area only, best to double check by calling
